If you've always wanted to draw, but thought there was no hope, this is the course for you! This intensive 5-day course is designed for adults who have never drawn before and might even believe that realistic drawing is possible only for those lucky enough to have natural talent. In fact, anyone can learn to draw, and draw well, given proper instruction, a bit of patience and some hard work. See the remarkable results at the gallery of before and after drawings done by art course participants.
Katia Rodriguez, a bi-lingual native of Costa Rica, is an experienced artist and teacher. Katia graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a major in art and has taught people, of all ages, in universities, public and private schools since 1986.
The course begins on Monday morning with a brief introduction to the Zen Center. Daily meditation at the Zen Center is available throughout the week. As the course continues you will learn how to quiet the dominant left side of the brain and allow the creative right side to express itself. You will draw a self portrait, a profile, a scene in perspective, a foreshortened figure, and more. You will learn about light and shadow, shading and sighting, and proportions. By the end of the course you will be seeing in an altogether different way.
Each day begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 5:30 p.m. A light breakfast and delicious vegetarian lunch is included in the course fee. Before breakfast and at the end of the day, you are welcome to join Center members for meditation in the Zen Center’s spacious meditation room.
